QES student, Harrison Wood becomes the recipient of the Royal Northern College of Music's most highly prestigious Junior RNCM award, 'The Director's Prize' for 2009.
Harrison has also been awarded the 2009 'Yorke Trust Prize For Double Bass' which is sponsored by Rodney Slatford, the former professional double bassist and broadcaster who was the head of stings at the Royal Northern College of Music for eighteen years. (Harrison also won this prize in 2007).
Quote from Harrison Wood "Receiving the RNCM's director's prize is one of the proudest moments of my musical life. When I started at the Junior RNCM in 2006 I never thought I'd ever be considered, let alone, win the top prize. I'm so honoured to be thought of in the same league as past director's prize winners like Mark Simpson, Kathryn Rudge and Adrian Spillett.

Information on the Junior department at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. Known as 'Junior RNCM', this centre for musical excellence provides expert tuition and specialist training for students (between 8 and 18) with exceptional ability. The Junior RNCM has produced many of the UK's top young musicians and three of the BBC's past Young Musician of the Year's. Junior RNCM operates on Saturdays and students receive highly specialised musical training without disturbing the balance of their weekday education and the normality of family life and derive great benefits from making music with others of similar talents and aspirations. A very high percentage of Junior RNCM students go on to study music at conservatoires and go on to be professional musicians.
