Lying at the heart of the most beautiful countryside in England, the Lune Valley boasts excellent road and rail access. Kirkby Lonsdale sits at the most south-easterly corner of the country’s third largest county. Through it runs the M6 motorway (www.motorwayservicesonline.co.uk/M6) and the high speed West Coast Rail Line (www.virgintrains.co.uk) nearest train stations are Lancaster, Carnforth, Oxenholme (Kendal)

Visitors who visit from the eastern side of England or Scotland can use cross country rail services or high speed road connections from Newcastle or Leeds. Nearest train station is Settle.

One of the country’s most attractive rail journeys in the internationally famous Settle-Carlisle route (www.settle-carlisle.co.uk) Settle is but a few minutes by road from Kirkby Lonsdale and there you can buy tickets for the 72-mile trip through some of the finest scenery in the country, including the spectacular Yorkshire Dales and over the 24 arches of the Ribblehead Viaduct. Modern diesel units ply the route, but steam and diesel charter services run as well. Don’t forget your camera.

Once in the Kirkby Lonsdale area, there’s a good range of bus services which connect the town to Lancaster, Settle, Kendal and beyond. Please see links to timetables below.
