KLCS Summer Concert 2011 PDF Print E-mail

Te Deum – Andrew Carter

The Sprig of Thyme – John Rutter

St Mary’s Church, Kirkby Lonsdale

Sunday 15 May 7.30pm

Tickets: Admission at the door or tickets in advance from choir members £10 (accompanied children free,) to include wine and soft drinks.

Andrew Carter's music is performed worldwide.  As a composer and choir director Andrew Carter has worked extensively in the United States and Australia/New Zealand.  Te Deum, written for the American Lutheran Church, makes an exhilaratingly effective choral work for choirs that have the opportunity to combine with a children's choir.  We are very pleased to welcome once again the QES Singers to fulfil this role.

The Sprig of Thyme offers a delightful selection of traditional songs of the British Isles arranged by John Rutter, who has been described as the most successful and well-known composer of choral music in recent British history.  This collection illustrates fully the infectiousness of his melodies and his consummate craftsmanship.

The concert will feature soprano soloist Tracie Penwarden and she will also conduct ‘OttoRegazze’, a singing group made up of talented singers from Queen Elizabeth School, Kirkby Lonsdale. Both pieces will be accompanied by a chamber orchestra made up from local professional musicians conducted by Ian Allan.

The Love the Lune project opens the Kirkby Lonsdale Made In Cumbria shop on the 12th March 2011

To be officially opened by Sylvia Emmot, Chair of South Lakeland District Council, at 11am the Made In Cumbria shop will open at 24 Main Street, Kirkby Lonsdale, the home of the old visitor information centre.

Why not pop by sometime to support the work of local artists and food producers. Or if you have a little more time, then we’d love you to volunteer to help in the shop.

About Love the Lune:

Love the Lune is an awareness campaign to connect rural communities, villages and towns along the Lune Valley. Based in Kirkby Lonsdale, the Love the Lune campaign encourages communities to work together for the benefit of their residents and businesses.

Love the Lune's aim is to increase economic prosperity by attracting more visitors and business activity to the area. Love the Lune is also concerned with environmental sustainability and is looking for ways the local communities can tap into the abundant natural resources to generate green energy for the benefit of everyone.

The Love the Lune Steering Group needs more members to investigate the nine issues highlighted by residents of the town, see www.lovethelune.com for details, and to find commercial solutions to resolve the issue and make money at the same time.
