Highlights Contemporary Craft Tour June 2013 PDF Print E-mail

Highlights Miniature Worlds tour comes to St Mary’s Church, Kirkby Lonsdale

A touring exhibition of work by twelve very different artists around a common theme of miniature worlds is coming to St Mary’s Church, Kirkby Lonsdale in June.  This is part of the Highlights Rural Touring Scheme’s ninth annual tour of the best of contemporary craft.

From fabulous jewellery and tiny ceramic sculptures to the smallest shoes and intricate historic costumes – all on a scale that makes them especially intriguing and that encourages visitors to look more closely for the unexpected – Miniature Worlds will include more than 300 different pieces, some of them for sale to visitors.

This year’s tour receives funding from the Arts Council England, Queen’s Hall Arts (Hexham), ONE North East, Eden District Council Community Fund, South Lakes District and Cumbria and Durham County Councils as well as the Garfield Weston Foundation, the Hadrian Trust, the Holehird Trust and a Cumbrian winery, High Cup Wines from near Appleby-in-Westmorland.

Miniature Worlds will be on display around the north of England during May and June and will be at St Mary’s Church, Kirkby Lonsdale from Thursday 20th June to Sunday 23rd June and open from 11am to 5pm each day.  The St Mary’s Church exhibition will also include work by children from Queen Elizabeth School who have been working with Serena Partridge in recent weeks.

Helen Baines is the promoter for the tour’s visit to Kirkby Lonsdale.  “We had such a success with last year’s tour that we were keen to provide a venue again in 2013.  Serena Partridge has been working with local children and the work that they’ve created is amazing.  We’re expecting the Highlights Contemporary Craft Tour to be one of our own summer highlights.”
