Craft Tour – St Mary’s Church PDF Print E-mail

This year’s Highlights Contemporary Craft Tour, which is entitled Vanguard – Progressive Craft, will be coming to St Mary’s Church, Kirkby Lonsdale.

Vanguard focuses on artists who are combining modern technology with traditional skills in amazing new ways and it showcases the work of jeweller and textile artist, Nora Fok, glass artist, Catherine Fuga Carr, furniture designer, Liam Hopkins of Lazerian and Cumbrian ceramicist, Michael Eden.

The pieces that will be on show are stunning and will certainly change people’s views of where modern design, craft and art meet. Nora, Catherine, Michael and Liam are all in the vanguard of new developments, hence the name of the show. Add to that the inclusion of work by local youngsters in our exhibition and it should be a fascinating weekend.”

All four artists are nationally renowned and recognised as pioneers in their fields,” said Karen Babayan who is the Highlights Contemporary Craft Tour Officer. “From crocheting with glass to the marriage of clay and computers; from jewellery making with 3D printing software to the computer-aided design of furniture. The result will be a stunning exhibition of around fifty different pieces so St Mary’s Church will be completely transformed for the weekend into a unique gallery space.”

The exhibition is hosted by Kirkby Lonsdale Arts Scene and St Mary’s Church and is open from Thursday 10th May until Sunday 13th May, 10.00am – 5.00pm.

A brochure with full details of the Highlights Contemporary Craft Tour and its venues, along with details of the performance programme for the coming season is available from libraries, Tourist Information Centres, local promoters or from the Highlights offices: 14 King’s Head Court, Appleby, Cumbria CA16 6QH or it can be downloaded from www.highlightsnorth.co.uk.
