One of Kirkby Lonsdale’s best-loved buildings looks set for a brighter future

Posted Sunday, 4 February 2018

The Lunesdale Hall on New Road, Kirkby Lonsdale, is to be the subject of a major review in the next few months. The building, which dates back to 1895 and has been at the heart of town life for much of the last century, is currently used for a range of community, recreational and commercial purposes. However, recent consultations with local groups and funding bodies have suggested that the Hall isn’t fulfilling its full potential and Trustees want to widen its appeal whilst also setting it on a firmer long-term financial footing.

Today the Lunesdale Hall steering group has announced it will invite consultants to bid for a tender to produce a feasibility study which should make recommendations for a sustainable future for the Hall, which sees it playing a more significant role in the day to day life of the town.

Consultants wishing to apply should have architectural and planning expertise ensuring that the options recommended could include physical remodelling, improvement or extension. The Lunesdale Hall Steering Committee has set a deadline of Friday 2nd March 2018 for tender submissions. Contact Kirkby Lonsdale Town Councillor, Mike Burchnall to apply (mikeburchnall@gmail.com) or download the tender specification from the link provided on this page.

Notes

Funding for the study comes from a variety of sources - the major funders being CCC and SLDC.
