MW Turner in Tatham & Hornby

The Friends of St. James the Less invite you to an afternoon with Rhian Addison, former curator at the Whitworth Art Gallery Manchester and currently a freelance curator working between York University & Tate Britain. Rhian will explore how Turner spent his time in Tatham & Hornby to create his idyllic watercolour ‘Hornby Castle, from Tatham Church’ 1816 -1818 now held in The Victoria and Albert Museum.

Using visual analysis & archival records Rhian will consid-er the stylistic features of this work by comparing Turner’s various sketches in his notebooks with his final watercolour and photographs of the present - day landscape. 200 years on, there is much more to this work than meets the eye. Join us at the Church to hear more!

Enjoy light refreshments afterwards
