Barbon is a small picturesque village to the north of Kirkby Lonsdale. Situated on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales it provides a perfect base to explore the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales.
The village was the childhood home of the poet Catherine Grace Godwin who died here in 1845 and is the location of Barbon Manor Speed Hillclimb, an event that runs up to three occasions each year, in May, June and July, on a driveway that runs through Barbon Manor Park, by permission of the Shuttleworth Estate.
The village is also host to the The Barbon Inn, in the centre of the village, built as a coaching inn in the 17th century.
