Beginners Art Appreciation: Understanding and Enjoying Art
Discover the wonderful world of art in this welcoming Beginners Art Appreciation class. Designed for those with little or no prior knowledge, this course invites you to explore famous artworks, artists, and movements from different times and cultures.
Through guided discussion and visual exploration, you’ll learn how to look at art with a curious and informed eye—no need to be an artist yourself! Perfect for anyone who enjoys visiting galleries, is curious about art history, or simply wants to see the world in a more creative way.
This is a six week course, held every Wednesday in Kirkby Lonsdale Library, between 12.30 and 2.30pm starting Wednesday 7 January. It’s led by Amy Jane Hardy, our fully qualified Arts & Crafts tutor.
How will the course be delivered?
This course will be delivered face to face by our amazing Art tutor Amy. There will be a mixture of tutor demonstration, discussion and hands-on creative activities to help you develop your skills and confidence.
What do I need to bring?
No equipment is required, but you may want to bring a notebook and pen to take notes if you’d like.
What are the entry requirements?
There are no specific entry requirements for this course, just a passion for art and a willingness to have a go.

You can continue your art journey with any of the other classes we have on offer. This could lead to an art course focusing on a specific skill or technique or a creative arts qualification. How well am I doing?
You will be taught by Amy our highly qualified art tutor. Throughout the course she will give you feedback and encouragement. You will also complete an Individual Progress Report (IPR) to track your progress.
