Moonrakers are on a mission to bring traditional and contemporary folk music to new audiences in village halls\, churches\, arts centres and festivals across the UK. \nTheir multi-instrumental show comprises harp\, cello\, fretted instruments\, whistles\, and female/male vocals. Their live shows are informative\, full of musical variety and suitable for all ages (“startlingly talented”\, Oxford Times\, “exquisite sound“\, BBC). Included in the show are ancient mystic ballads\, beautiful lyrical tunes\, and joyous chorus songs. The band’s prolific recorded output has received glowing reviews from the music press (“The real deal”\, The Living Tradition; “Wonderful arrangements”\, RnR Magazine; “Uplifting\, sensitively crafted songs and tunes” FATEA magazine). Their music has been used for the BBC television series ‘Beyond Paradise’\, Radio 4 and numerous local radio and podcast shows. \nPlease note that the evening performance will be preceded by a six-hour Folk Orchestra Workshop\, held at Barbon Village Hall from 10AM-4PM. DESCRIPTION:Each year\, Moonrakers run a series of sought-after Folk Orchestra workshops across the country for intermediate instrumentalists who wish to develop skills in arranging and playing folk tunes and songs in an ensemble. \nJoin Jon Bennett (guitar\, ukulele\, bouzouki\, whistles)\, Jacqui Johnson (cello\, fiddle\, keyboard) and Becki Luff (harp\, keyboard) for an inspiring six-hour workshop at Barbon village Hall\, ahead of their concert at St Mary’s Church the same evening. \nYou’ll have the opportunity to work through a number of tunes and songs\, and will be invited to suggest arrangement ideas yourself. Music (with chords\, countermelody and bass) will be sent out in advance along with a video of each tune played at medium pace for those who learn by ear. SUMMARY:Levens Choir: A Winter's Journey
DESCRIPTION:Join us for “A Winter’s Journey”\, which includes an eclectic assortment of pieces with a seasonal theme\, spanning the 16th century to the to the present day.The glories of the Renaissance are represented by works by Palestrina\, Lassus (the Divine Orlando) and Clemens non Papa\, also Viadana\, Mikolaj Zielinski and Jean Mouton (b 1459). On the way to the 21st century\, we stop off to include works by Gustav Holst and Herbert Howells.Arriving at present day\, some of the contemporary artists included are very well-known. We take particular pleasure in introducing composers who may not yet be known to some of our audiences. At this concert we present pieces by Joanna Marsh and Will Todd\, Bob Chilcott and Rebecca Dale. \nThe December concerts would not be complete without a selection of Christmas carols\, and of course we oblige!We hope to welcome you to this feast of diverse musical delights. \nLevens Choir is based in South Cumbria\, and has become known for high performance standards and an innovative\, wide-ranging repertoire. SUMMARY:Flutes & Co Christmas Concert
DESCRIPTION:Flutes & Co\, Cumbria’s flute orchestra\, perform their annual Christmas Concert at St Mary’s Church in Kirkby Lonsdale. This year’s concert features film themes\, classical favourites and\, of course\, Christmas tunes. \nEstablished by Suzanne de Lozey in 1994\, initially with six young flute players\, Flutes & Co\, Cumbria’s flute orchestra is thriving at almost thirty years old. The group is now led by Musical Director Sue Nicholls and boasts almost 40 members from primary school students to the retired\, Grade 3 to post-diploma\, spanning a forty mile radius from our Kendal base. Continual fundraising has enabled the group to own two piccolos\, four altos\, three basses and a contra bass\, alongside an enormous library of flute choir music. In addition\, a double bass player gives more depth to the ensemble and a percussionist joins for performances. \nThere is a suggested donation of £10 or pay what you feel. Under 18s free. \nThere will be refreshments & a raffle.

DESCRIPTION:Fraser Hall is delighted to present Incahoots\, a piano/vocal duo\, offering an extensive and varied repertoire to suit all tastes\, ages\, and occasions. \nIncahoots is Gabrielle Zanobini\, Lead Vocals and Chris Lloyd\, Piano/Vocals. \nGabi is a full time professional musician. Her academic achievements include:  BA First Class Honours in Music Theatre\, Grade 5 in IDTA Musical Theatre\, and Grade 6 in LAMDA Verse and Prose. She has played lead roles in many amateur dramatic productions throughout the years including Grease\, Hairspray\, Chicago\, Bugsy Malone and London Road. \nGabrielle is also a vocal coach at Stagecoach\, Wilmslow and Arts Academy\, Leigh where she teaches children aged 5-18 years and co produces musical theatre events. She also teaches private\, LAMDA Musical Theatre one-to-one vocal lessons in Southport and in Chorley. Shas has also recently opened her own performing art school in Southport called “Zanobini Academy of Performing Arts”.\n \nChris is also a full time professional musician\, with extensive experience of writing\, arranging\, producing\, and performing music. He has a first class BA (Hons) Degree in Music\, and teaches piano in his spare time. He is a past Variety Club ‘Act of the Year’ winner and has appeared on Jonathan Ross’ “Big Talent Show.” Chris has also performed at Anfield Stadium\, the Grand National events (at Aintree Racecourse)\, and Royal Birkdale Golf Club. \nGabi and Chris ‘joined forces’ after being commissioned to co-produce and perform in various themed shows and musical projects for a large North West travel company. They now perform around 40 of these shows each year throughout the UK. DESCRIPTION:with Kastos\nConcert & Cakes is an hour of beautiful music by musicians from the Royal Northern College of Music followed by an invitation to meet the performers afterwards\, whilst enjoying delicious home-made cakes\, tea and coffee. \nKastos are a new innovative saxophone and percussion duo featuring Oliver Pritchard Jones and Sam Milton. The pair\, spending time studying and working at both Leeds Conservatoire and the Royal Northern College of Music\, have crafted a varied repertoire ranging from Northumberland folk to modern classical whilst visiting free jazz in between. With an array of instruments\, Kastos creates a sound world of their own taking any audience with them. \nAmong the pieces they have selected to play is the traditional “Danny Boy/Londonderry Air”\, a tango classic from Astor Piazzolla and a swing by “Pocket Grooves” by the American percussionist\, composer and educator Gene Koshinski. \nWe do not sell tickets or charge entry\, but we do hope for a donation afterwards to cover costs\, to make sure we can continue these concerts and for the very wonderful cakes and refreshments we serve afterwards.

SUMMARY:Autumn Concert: Brass and Light
DESCRIPTION:Kirkby Lonsdale Brass Band announce their annual autumn Concert to be held at St Mary’s Church. \nKirkby Lonsdale Brass Band is one of the oldest bands in the country. Our earliest record is from 1821 when the band played for the coronation celebrations of King George IV. \nThey led the procession for the coronation celebrations of Queen Victoria in 1838 and escorted Queen Adelaide\, widow of William IV into the town on her visit in 1840.  \nIn 1936 they played for the\, then\, Prince of Wales on his visit to Kirkby Lonsdale and on the occasion of Prince Charles’s visit in 1993. \nIn January 2025 the band welcomed new Musical Director Robert Walker. \nThe band is self supporting. Funds are raised from engagements\, fund raising events and from our Patrons Fund. Concerts include pieces from some of the most famous and best-loved operas\, as well as some from less well-known works. \nWe present short scenes\, pieces and arias from works by many and varied composers and from various periods in a format designed to give pleasure to both the regular opera goer and the opera novice. DESCRIPTION:Chris Coull is Jazz Trumpeter\, Band Leader\, Arranger and Composer. His Sextet is renowned for their improvised ‘all swinging’ jazz\, and return after their successful concert last year. \nFrom his beginnings in Manchester\, Chris was previously based in Qatar for 15 years as director of “Doha Jazz”. For the last decade Chris has based himself in Brighton where his playful be-bop style has been in evidence in the clubs and festivals around the area. Chris has played with and led collaborations with Jerry Weldon\, Charenee Wade\, Dominick Farinacci\, Jason Brown\, Alan Barnes\, David Newton\, Andy Panayi\, Josephine Davies\, Toni Kofi\, Darren Beckett\, Sara Oschlag\, Imogen Ryall\, and “The Damned”.
