DESCRIPTION:with Mike Hartley\, Adventurer and Author\nMike’s talk will share the story of his journey from aspiring schoolboy athlete to international ultra-runner. Mike has set records for the 270-mile Pennine Way\, the 190-mile Coast-to-Coast and the ‘Ultimate Ultra’. He describes himself as obsessive in his quest for adventure and athletic perfection\, so when he stepped back from ultra running at the age of 50\, he continued to seek challenge and adventure in cycling\, kayaking\, caving and solo climbing. Mike’s courage\, stamina and spirit are awesome prepare to be inspired! \nThe evening starts a little earlier than usual at 7.00pm\, with mince pies\, mulled wine and a festive table quiz. Mike will begin his presentation at 7.30pm. \nThe event is free for WI members and there is a small charge of £5 for guests (including gentlemen). No need to book. \nWe hope to see you there!

SUMMARY:Wray Scarecrow Festival
DESCRIPTION:The longest-running Scarecrow Festival in the UK (we believe)\, is back for 2025. This year the theme is ‘Circus’ and all activities for the 10 day festival revolve around this\, culminating in the Wray Fair on Bank Holiday Monday\, 5th May. \nOnce again there are a variety of events taking place including 10k road race\, giant scarecrow parade\, car boot\, fell race\, local history walks and not forgetting the Wray Fair with entertainment and fun for all the family and\, of course\, lots of scarecrows! \nThe Festival began in 1992\, inspired by a similar event in France. It is organised each year by the ‘Scarecrow Committee’\, a small but dedicated band of local volunteers.
