DESCRIPTION:with Tess Pike\, Blue Badge Tourist Guide\nPutting the Kirk in Kirkby Lonsdale: the Minster of the Lune? \nThe early story of Kirkby Lonsdale’s Parish Church is lost in the mists of time\, but one thing is certain: when Norse Settlers arrived in the 10th century\, there was already a church on the site. SUMMARY:Rhythm in Life
DESCRIPTION:Rhythm plays a fundamental role in how we perceive and connect with the world around us. When we hear the word “rhythm\,” music is likely the first thing that comes to mind. However\, as Nina Kraus highlights in The Extraordinary Ways Rhythm Shapes Our Lives (MIT Press\, 2023)\, rhythm is far more than just a musical concept. It influences how we listen\, understand language\, and even communicate in noisy environments. It guides our movements\, like walking or dancing\, and shapes the emotions we feel in our interactions with others. \nIn this fascinating evening event\, Iain Hunter will delve deeper into these ideas\, exploring the profound impact rhythm has on our everyday lives. With the support of the Dave Woods Band\, Iain will illustrate the far-reaching power of rhythm through engaging discussions and live performances. This event will offer a unique opportunity to experience the ways rhythm connects us\, transcending language and culture\, and influencing both our cognitive and emotional states. \nSuitable for all ages\, this evening promises to be a captivating exploration of rhythm’s role in shaping our perceptions\, communication\, and relationships. Whether you’re a music lover or simply curious about the science behind rhythm\, this event offers something for everyone. Don’t miss out on this enlightening experience! \nIn a humorous and hugely informative interactive session\, nationally recognised teacher of percussion\, Iain Hunter will take the audience through the importance and all embracing role of rhythm in our everyday lives. Learn how bees\, spiders\, caterpillars\, butterflies\, grasshoppers and recycled plastic bottles can unlock your inner rhythmic pulse! Great fun for all ages! \nPrices\nAdults £10\nU18s £5 \nTickets\nBook online → \nAll tickets carry a small booking fee shown at time of purchase\nDoors open 6.45pm. Event starts 7.30pm. \nPart of Illuminate Festival of Ideas\, 8-23 February

Another describes him as “somewhere in the middle ground between rock and jazz or a sound that is sometimes reminiscent of Dylan and the Band”. He has also been described as the Irish Springsteen and comparisons have been made about his voice sounding like the ghost of Roy Orbison! \nBen Reel released his 11th studio album ‘Come a Long Way’ in June 2023.
