Kirkby Lonsdale has two public toilets sites – in Jingling Lane and at Devil’s Bridge.
As part of a major refurbishment programme, it’s intended to highlight landmarks of the local area on the doors at each site.
A competition is being launched, offering a prize of £500, for one or more designs featuring the attractions of Kirkby Lonsdale, the Lune Valley, the Dales or the Lakes.
The art work chosen will be made into panels to cover the doors at both sites. The art work could be linked across all doors, or stand independently. Photographic submissions are excluded.
The competition is being run by the town’s Community Interest Company (CIC), which manages both sites. A spokesman said:
"We want to make people smile when they see these doors, to make our conveniences something to talk about, to tell friends about. At the same time, we want to showcase what our town and surrounds have to offer residents and visitors alike.
"We hope to encourage local entries from all ages, from people with a sense of humour and who know how attractive this area is.
"The downside is that there may not be a winner, but we are confident that we will find a successful submission."
The closing date for entries is April 18 and a decision will be made by the CIC at its May meeting.
Anyone contemplating taking part is asked to let our Town and Tourism Manager know. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org when you decide to take part.
Entires should be submitted to the CIC at 29 Main St, Kirkby Lonsdale, LA6 2AH, marked 'Art Competition'.
