Remembering slavery - Cumbria’s connections to the transatlantic slave trade through surviving evidence. Rob investigates the evidence for Cumbrian participation in the Triangular Trade, the plantation economy in the West Indies and the role of abolitionists. He does this using evidence of buildings, documents, pictures and artefacts.
This lecture is based on work undertaken for Creative Partnership Cumbria as part of the commemoration of the bicentenary of the abolition of the British trade in enslaved people in 2007. Rob is well known to us and being President of the Cumberland and Westmorland Antiquarian and Archaeological Society, we can look forward to a well informed and interesting lecture.
