Early Maps of Cumbria is a talk with Bill Shannon.
Cumbria is first named on a map a thousand years ago, while Kirkby Lonsdale is first mentioned at the end of the 14th century. County maps became available from the 18th century, but large scale maps only emerge in the late 18th century. The talk will look at the growing details with which Cumbria is shown on the maps and what these maps can tell us about the landscape, transport, and local history.
Admission £2.50 including refreshments. Kirkby Lonsdale & District Civic Society talks are open to members and non members.
