A four day festival of mostly free talks, tours, workshops, family events and exhibitions. Organised by the Landscape Trust, a charity with over 1100 members who are passionate about the Arnside & Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. As this full name is a bit of a mouthful most people abbreviate it to the AONB.
Since 2012, the Landscape Trust has organised an annual festival in September, exploring the landscapes in each of the local villages and parishes. The format is the same each year - free guided walks, short lectures, tours, family events and exhibitions.
Meet the Villages has become the flagship event in the Landscape Trust’s annual programme and usually attracts well over 1000 visitors. Everyone is welcome but our target audiences are the residents of each parish and the membership of the Landscape Trust. One of the key platforms of the Trust is learning more about local landscapes.
This festival provides a fascinating opportunity to explore villages and parishes in depth. It is run on a shoestring thanks to the generosity of people who donate their time and expertise to give lectures, lead walks, organise tours and help with stewarding. Our organisational motto is for the people by the people.
There are so many events, walks, demonstrations, exhibitions and workshops it's difficult to include them on one single web page! Therefore it is essential for you to download the Programme, so you can see for your self the extent of the events taking place over the four days of the Festival. It includes all booking details, costs and a wealth of other information so you can make the most of this exciting local festival.
