The Best of British - From Byrd to the Beatles

7:30pm Saturday, 8 June 2019

St Mary's Parish Church, Kirkby Lonsdale LA6 2AX

As part of the Kirkby Lonsdale Music Festival, Sing Joyfully! vocal ensemble & Kirkby Lonsdale Singers, will join forces with a super local band and guest soloists, to bring the best of British Song to its concert audience.

500 years of great music will be celebrated in this very special Gala Concert with works from Byrd to the Beatles and beyond. Sacred and Secular choral works from the Renaissance by Tallis, Cornysh and Dowland will be performed alongside more familiar Folk Songs. The second half of the programme promises a smorgasbord of favourites from the Pop catalogues of the more recent past, including hits from iconic names such as The Beatles, Elton John and Coldplay.

Concert goers will be seated cabaret-style within the church, so that they are able to relax and enjoy this wonderful summer concert in the beautiful surrounds of St Mary's Parish Church, Kirkby Lonsdale

The choirs are led by Anastasia Micklethwaite and their singers meet weekly in Casterton and Kirkby Lonsdale to enjoy a wide variety of music. Both ensembles perform seasonal concerts.

Anastasia said “Our summer concert is the culmination of our hard work throughout the year and is a wonderful opportunity to showcase our wide repertoire of music. Our singers love to explore music together and have gained confidence year-on-year, performing more and more challenging and interesting repertoire.  I am thrilled to be able to share my passion for music with them and for us to be involved with the Kirkby Lonsdale Music Festival once again”.

We hope that both residents and visitors to the area will join us for this celebratory evening of music. Proceeds from the event will go to local charities, churches and music groups.
