Clipper Challenge

Join us at Fraser Hall in Cowan Bridge for a fascinating talk about the Clipper Round the World Race. Nigel Odling will discuss the life challenge it presents and to share with you the highs and lows of his adventure in the harsh environment of the Southern Ocean.
Nigel sailed as a child and into his 20’s, but a growing family meant little sailing for a number of years until a flotilla holiday in Greece in 2002 rekindled his enthusiasm. A couple of years later he acquired a single-handed Laser. He has also raced in a number of the Round the Island races. In 2011 he raced on Lutine, a Swan 53, in the Fastnet, one of the ocean racing classics.
In need of a greater challenge, in 2015 he gave up his job in the City to take part in the first three of the eight legs of the Clipper Round the World Race. He was a crew member on Clipper Telemed+ racing in the fleet of 12 identical 70 foot boats from London to Rio, Rio to Cape Town and Cape Town to Albany Western Australia.
