The Friends of Ruskin’s View

Ruskin's View

Following the closure of the Brow Footpath in September, 2021 the Friends of Ruskin’s View was formally established in early 2022, the fundraising campaign was launched in November, 2022 and The Friends were awarded charitable status in February, 2024.

The main purpose of The Friends was to raise funds and support Kirkby Lonsdale Town Council in its efforts to reopen the Brow footpath, which in turn gave access to Ruskin’s View.

With funding from the Town Council, residents and visitors to the Town, and various donations and pledges the Friends raised over £180,000. This enabled the Town Council to carry out monitoring and assessment of the path and permit its reopening in stages, the complete path being re-opened in January, 2026.

As at May, 2026 the Friends still held £66,000 and over the next few years this will be used to help the Town Council carry out regular monitoring and to improve the Brow footpath.

Kirkby Lonsdale Town Council meets monthly and receives an update on The Brow footpath. This is the best means of keeping up to date on what is happening to the path. The minutes of the Town Council meetings are posted on this website under the banner of the Town Council.
