The Bernstein Beat
Nina Bernstein – Narrator
Stephen Threlfall – Conductor
From the exuberance of On the Town to the intimacy of Trouble in Tahiti, the wit of Candide, and the electrifying rhythms of West Side Story, experience a vibrant journey through Bernstein’s most celebrated works.
Performed by our community orchestra, this programme brings together some of his most thrilling and beloved music in a dynamic and engaging concert.
Nina Bernstein is Leonard Bernstein’s youngest daughter. She along with her two siblings are committed to preserving their father’s legacy, bringing his music to new audiences. They created the Bernstein Beat to celebrate their father’s lifelong belief that music must be for all!
For the Bernstein Beat, Lake District Music and its Artistic Director Stephen Threlfall (ISM member) are inviting players of all ages from across Cumbria – and further afield to form a special, community orchestra to play together in celebration, sharing in Bernstein’s mission.
This is the culmination of a weekend of workshops and performances by local musicians, see Bernstein Orchestra Workshop and Bernstein: Anniversaries and A Total Embrace.
